Raman spectroscopy for Science and Industry

Rising to the technological challenge of the day, RamanLife has developed a line of cutting-edge instrumentation for Raman spectroscopy, featuring ultra-portable Raman spectrometers, Raman microscopes, luminescent spectrometers, and SERS substrates.

RamanLife R&D team has been actively exploring practical possibilities of applying optical devices in the field of medicine and bioscience to meet the urgent demand for more efficient technologies. Among our most recent achievements is the development of a novel method of COVID-19 express diagnostics based on our SERS substrates.

Laser Raman spectroscopy

Raman spectroscopy is a method of molecular spectroscopy that relies on the interaction of light with matter. It provides key information about inter- and intramolecular vibrations – the unique properties of the matter that establish its “molecular fingerprint.” For this reason, Raman spectroscopy has proven a powerful tool in various applications related to substance identification.

Compared to other conventional techniques of vibrational spectroscopy, such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) or near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR), Raman spectroscopy has significant practical advantages. Since the Raman effect is observed in the light scattering spectrum rather than the absorption spectrum, laser Raman spectroscopy does not require any special preparation of the sample and is relatively insensitive to the absorption bands. These features enable enhanced speed, accuracy, and reliability of the direct measurements carried out in solid, liquid or gaseous media, as well as through transparent materials, such as glass, plastic, or quartz. Furthermore, Raman spectroscopy reveals valuable details concerning low-frequency modes and vibrations indicative of the peculiar properties of the crystal lattice and molecular structure.
