Handheld Raman Spectroscopy

The Handheld Raman spectrometer from RamanLife is designed to record Raman and photoluminescence spectra of liquids, solids, powders, and gels in the field conditions, outside the laboratory. The measurement procedure involves exposing the object under investigation to the laser radiation within the visible spectrum, collecting the scattered radiation, and performing its spectral analysis. A single portable device consists of a laser source, a Czerny-Turner spectrometer, and a system for collecting, filtering, and analyzing scattered radiation. All optical components are fixed on a single baseplate, with no moving parts. The wide spectral range of the RamanLife handheld unit (120 — 4000 cm-1) covers the wavelength interval corresponding to molecular vibrations of most organic and inorganic substances. Combined with a high spectral resolution of 4 — 6 cm-1, it results in spectra of superior quality. These capabilities make possible prompt and unambiguous identification of the substance based on the wavelength position and relative intensity of its Raman spectral lines. The so-called spectral «fingerprint» of the examined material is compared against the spectra in our extensive database library of more than 20,000 Raman spectra of various chemical and biological substances.

Rapid Raman analysis does not require any preliminary preparation or processing of the samples under study. This easy-to-use instrument is operated via a wireless Bluetooth adapter or USB port, where information is transmitted from the unit to the user's smartphone, tablet, or PC. Hence, the analysis of the received data can be carried out through a user-friendly interface. Handheld Raman Analyzer is the best option when the performance of sophisticated laboratory instrumentation is required in everyday conditions.
